This inquiry approaches transformation through a body of research informed by nature’s blueprint and its recurring patterns which a question in mind: what does it mean to be human, after all? How do we know?

Letting the River Spill is an exhibition of recent work created by alumni from the School of Art and Design at Texas State University. Through an array of mediums and interests, each artist has continued a practice that at one point unfolded within San Marcos. There is a shared point of passage—a time and place that impacts their work as artists and more deeply, their identities reflected in that work. Letting the River Spill explores that point of passage and how it seeps into these personal trajectories.

Throughline is pleased to present Future Forward, a group exhibition featuring the work of fifteen emerging artists from across Texas, juried by Madi Murphy, Associate Curator of FotoFest. Future Forward will open with a public reception on Friday, August 8, from 6 – 9 pm at Throughline Gallery, 3909 Main Street, Houston, TX 77002. It will be on view through Saturday, August 30, 2025.
Each artist in Future Forward was selected through a juried open call for work by graduate and undergraduate art students, whose practices encompass painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and textile-based art. As a whole, the exhibition showcases a wide range of creative approaches that reflect diverse lived experiences.

In a world increasingly dependent on technology to translate and record emotions and memories, how do we truly capture a feeling? How does art serve as a vessel for preserving the emotional truths of our
experiences? Some Kind of Feeling showcases works that evoke the fleeting nature of emotion and memory, asking how we preserve the essence of our lived realities as evidence of existence. Through diverse mediums and subject matters, these artists explore the in-between space of feeling — an emotional space that affirms our humanity and stands in its own authenticity. In the search for clarity amid chaos, Some Kind of Feeling offers a sensory and emotional encounter, functioning as both a record and an awakening. These works invite reflection inward and outward, urging us to trust art’s power to transcend words and logic, creating a direct connection to the essence of what it means to feel.

SELF.START(TIME=(0,0’INFTY’)) is a collaboration between Eric Acuña, a multimedia artist and graduate of Texas State University, and Gabriel Mestas, a physics Master’s student of Texas State University. The show explores the depths of our senses through objects, sound, and imagery in a space-based audio-visual environment. The space also examines the use of real-time energy transformation and mathematical representation to illicit the joy of learning and to promote curiosity among viewers.

Materializing the Invisible: Signal, Ruin, and the Cosmology of Media
In the age of networks, communication appears seamless, immaterial. Yet beneath the surface lies a fragile infrastructure of wires, optics, satellites, and code. This installation interrupts that invisibility. Radios, stones, tangled cords, and a laser-to-solar-panel circuit exposes the translation of sound into light and back again through a tactile, precarious process.
Seeing ----0---- Sound
This research introduces a method of visualizing sound waves in air using Schlieren imaging—a technology that captures subtle changes in air density caused by acoustic vibrations.
This project operates within the delicate balance of perception, motion, and unseen forces, creating a space where sound, gravity, and liquid dynamics interact in real-time. The integration of a radio antenna as a structural and conceptual element ties the work to a broader dialogue about signal, transmission, and cosmic reception, merging with its environment, it amplifies existing signals, revealing the hidden rhythms of space
Even Paradoxes Have Forms
The infinite regress of recursion” describes a system folding back into itself, generating layers that repeat at diminishing scales. The work employs a multi-screen architecture to test the Droste effect as a spatial and perceptual construct. Instead of appearing on a single image plane, recursion is distributed across a high-resolution display wall, creating a recursive environment rather than a closed loop. This translation from image to construct demonstrates how feedback, scale, and segmentation alter the perception of infinite regression. The study reveals recursion as both a technical method and a perceptual experiment—at once fragile in its imperfections and enduring in its capacity to regenerate
Random Parallel Motion (RPM)
A speculative concept describing timeless events that echo across different moments in time, creating a cascading shift of energy Sound as movement, light as motion, energy as transformation.
Ice, Magnets, and the Torus
This project captures the fascinating interplay of a melting ice cube and magnetism, illustrating the transformation of states and energies. As the ice melts, it symbolizes change while the magnetic forces reveal unseen connections, creating a unique dialogue between nature and science.
Signal Forms: Bending Light, Sound, and Space
This project weaves sound, gravity, and liquid dynamics with light projections and electrical voltages, mapping signals through soft materials. It amplifies unseen forces, revealing how energy bends, transfers, and unfolds in space
Emergence
Emergence produces an immersive and imaginative environment through audio and motion-reactive geometric forms. This study connects the form of water and visual sound projections, creating an exhibition environment through the variation and volumetric manipulation of water-based technologies.
L2ork Tweeter Hackathon
