Slow-scan television (SSTV) is a picture transmission method used mainly by amateur radio operators to send and receive static photos or images via radio waves. Instead of live moving video, SSTV converts an image into audio tones that sound like a fax machine or dial-up modem, taking 30 to 120 seconds to draw a single picture line-by-line.

In the age of networks, communication appears seamless, immaterial. Yet beneath the surface lies a fragile infrastructure of wires, optics, satellites, and code. I wanted to build an installation that interrupts that invisibility. Radio transmissions, standing waves, geological artifacts, tangled cords, and a laser-to-solar-panel circuit exposes the translation of sound into light and back again through a tactile, precarious process.

This research introduces a method of visualizing sound waves in air using Schlieren imaging—a technology that captures subtle changes in air density caused by acoustic vibrations. Re-imaging space weather data through a cloud of "smoke"
