Mag-net_Sync is a multimedia kinetic sound sculpture that explores the relationship between motion, sound, and visual programming through the rhythmic dance of a magnetic pendulum. A magnetic pendulum is set into motion through rotational pull of a single-phase induction motor, joined with magnets beneath the device. These rotating magnets, controlled by a motor, alter the pendulum's orbits and accelerations, creating a constantly shifting pattern of rhythmic oscillations.
As the pendulum moves, its oscillations are tracked by motion sensors, which translate the data into a visual programming environment. The rhythmic periodic orbits generated by the motor are synthesized into coded parameters that evolve into a real-time graphical programming environment for audio, video, and graphics processing.
The magnetic field and pendulum’s oscillations compose a dynamic, evolving music, where different accelerations and movements generate variations in the sound, turning the physical motion into an auditory experience.
