Universe Radio is an experimental audio project that fuses radio astronomy, field research, and avant-garde soundscapes into a singular listening experience. Inspired by the eerie, cinematic surreality of late-night freeform radio, this series explores the profound feeling of deep-space isolation. It is a dedicated outlet for sonic fiction—a space where independent researchers, producers, and sound artists map the invisible frequencies connecting Earth and the cosmos.

Our debut episode, "Information Processing," sets the stage for our first broadcast season. This introductory segment bridges earthbound geographical areas with deep-space scans of the galactic plane, colliding real-world, site-specific events with astronomical data. Blending live field recordings from the rugged Chisos Mountains, a hydrogen line scan captured during the Perseids meteor shower, and texturized synthesizers, Episode 1 is gritty, raw, and immersive. It is a blending of worlds into a singular, cohesive soundscape

We are actively seeking segments from independent producers, sound artists, and experimentalists to contribute their own interpretations of sonic fiction. To keep a unified thread throughout the season, your segment should mirror the multi-layered structural philosophy of our debut episode. Submission deadline is October 30th

How to Submit :

Audio Structure Guidelines ===

Your submitted segment must actively layer and mix three specific elements:

  • The Terrestrial Layer: Raw field recordings from a specific physical site (urban, rural, or natural) using your own unique listening instruments or microphones.

  • The Cosmic Layer: Sonified deep-space data, radio telescope scans, meteor radar echoes, or any celestial frequencies that represent the sky above, as long as you I.D in your own way. 

  • The Synthetic Layer: Found sounds, audio of voices, hardware textures, electronic soundscapes, or synthesizer melodies that act as the cohesive bindings for Earth and space together.

 

 Technical & Submission Specs ===

  • Duration: Segments must be between 5 to 15 minutes long.

  • Audio Format: Exported as a high-quality 24-bit WAV or 320kbps MP3 file.

  • Mixing: We highly encourage complex, non-linear mixing (using software like Adobe Audition, Ableton, or Audacity) to emphasize depth and atmosphere.

  • Metadata Sheet: Please include a short text file detailing your terrestrial coordinates, your cosmic data source, and a 2-sentence bio about yourself.

  • Video:  submit a video why compliments your soundtrack to be used on the skin for the Media Player interfaces

Video Technical Specifications ===

  • Format: MP4 or MOV.

  • Aspect Ratio: 9:16 vertical format.

  • Resolution: 1080 x 1920 pixels (Standard Instagram Reel size).

  • Duration: Can be the entirely free-flowing for the entire duration or a seamless loop between 30 seconds to 2 minutes long (which will loop continuously for the duration of your 5 to 15-minute audio track).

  • Aesthetic Direction: We are looking for abstract, low-exposure, and heavily textured vertical imagery. Ideal submissions include slow vertical panning of starry skies, grainy infrared night-vision clips, macro textures of environmental elements, or distorted oscilloscope waveforms.

  • Safe Zone Rule: Keep any crucial visual elements or focal points centered. Avoid adding text overlays, watermarks, or bright flashes that could clash with the media player UI or text captions.
